MEMBERS AUTUMN OUTING - Private Tour of Apsley House - Monday 13th October 2025
The London Home of the 1st Duke of Wellington, Apsley House has a magnificent collection of fine and decorative arts, ranging from a very saucy sculpture of Napoleon by Canova to great works of art by Velázquez, Murillo, Rubens, Goya, Van Dyck and Brueghel and a stunning array of silver and porcelain including the stunning Waterloo Shield.
The house itself has traces of the original Robert Adam architecture and is one of the finest examples of Regency interiors in the country.
The house will be closed to the public when we will be guided by one of the team from English Heritage. The tour itself will last about 90 minutes.
Leaving Tisbury by train in the morning, we will make our way to Mayfair by 12 noon and lunch at The Grenadier, a small pub in a mews off Wilton Crescent in Mayfair, originally built as an officer's mess in the 1720's, opened as a pub in the 1800's and frequented by the Duke of Wellington and George IV (though as far as we know not at the same time).
Their speciality is Beef Wellington Click HERE to view an example of the menu. We will ask members to preselect from the autumn menu a couple of weeks before the outing.
The tour of Apsley will start at 2pm and we will leave to return to Tisbury at 4pm.
We will organise train tickets for those that require it.
The cost of the tour is £40 per member. Train tickets and the cost of your lunch will be extra.
Click Here to book a space(s).
The outing is available for members only at this time. Should demand exceed the places available we will conduct a draw.
